Development of a multifunctional composite structure with an inherent capability of self-sensing using carbon nanotubes

The aim of this PhD jointly supervised by DCIM-URJC and CCMSS-UPM research groups is to take advantage of the electromechanical behavior of carbon nanotubes in order to detect damage in composite structures, such as stiffened panels, leading to a reduction in costs. The most critical parts of these type of structures are the bonding lines between the skin and the stiffeners so a novel technology based on an adhesive film doped with carbon nanotubes will be developed. To achieve this goal, some several from coupon to sub-element tests will be conducted.
