Formulation and characterization of colloidal suspensions of TiN for direct inkjet printing

In the frame of the project “Implementation of Direct Inkjet Printing for miniaturization of laminates of SS/Ti(C,N) as coatings for extreme conditions” (Frontiers of Research Project, IP J. Escribano) in collaboration with the GTP-UC3M group has been prepared Ti substrate by powder metallurgy technology for it surface modification by inkjet printing using TiN inks. Research about the properly formulation of the inks and its colloidal properties to obtain inks of non-oxides particles (TiN, Ti(C,N)) for coatings was addressed in a four-month stay of Dr. J. Escribano in Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics CNR-ISTEC. Sintering process and samples characterization of the cover samples is performed in collaboration with the GTP-UC3M group. Surface modification of Ti substrates using inkjet printing technique allowed drawing different TiN grids (see figure) that can be used for cell culture.
